Most people think it means that internet connection and the likes should not be charged. NO! that was what I thought at first.. lol.. They will definitely be charged to maintain the internet providing facilities. Now, what does Google mean by free and open. The web should be free and open in the sense that information on the web should not be tampered with.
Who tampers with the information on the web? Our government. They do so via court orders, site blocking, internet policies and the likes. Google receives over 4000 content removal requests a year from various countries even though most are not removed due to appeal verdicts and considerable reviews.
The world of internet in its own context is a free world and should be kept free. Millions of pieces of information fly around the web on daily basis. We should not be deprived of access to information. Most if not all countries have the "Freedom of expression" clause in their constitutions but they look at it from a different angle when it comes to internet issues. I hope you are seeing reasons with me that the web should be #freeandopen
